Artist's Statement

Most painting mediums, such as oils and acrylics, do essentially what the artist tells them to do. They have no freedom. Watercolors, by contrast, have minds of their own. They resist control, moving about the wetted paper influenced only by gravity and other forces of nature. A watercolor painting is only partly the creation of the artist.

When I start a painting, I usually have only a rough idea of where I am going. More often than not, I end up someplace else. This uncertainty makes the painting come alive.
