Children's Holiday Shop
A Lawrence Holiday Tradition
In its 13th year, the Children's Holiday Shop is a Lawrence holiday tradition unique to the Arts Center. The Shop is only for children, ages 3-12. Each year over 700 children have the special experience of selecting their own gifts for their families and pets at the Holiday Shop. These quality gifts range in price from $1.00 - $5.00.
The Holiday Shop is a safe and fun place, as the children are escorted by volunteer "elves" who ensure they have a unique and special experience selecting their own gifts for loved ones on their list and having the gifts wrapped. Parents wait for their children outside the Shop so that the presents are kept secret. Families also enjoy a visit and picture with Santa, a chance to meet Baby Jay, and the Preschool Cookie Sale.
An important part of the Shop is the "Holiday Shop Dollars" program. Holiday Shop Dollars are distributed to children in the community who otherwise could not afford to shop for their families. These are distributed to schools and social service agencies. Each child will receive $10 in Holiday Shop Dollars. More than 800 children will receive Holiday Shop Dollars for the Holiday Shop.
The Holiday Shop is a successful holiday treasure thanks to the over 200 community volunteers who spend countless hours shopping, wrapping, elving, and helping in the shop during the event. Also, Arts Center Preschool families help organize the Cookie Sale, baking and donating all of the cookies. Thank you to all of our wonderful supportive volunteers!!
Our program sponsor, Capital Federal Savings is also critical to the success of the Holiday Shop. Their financial support of the program is what makes the experience even more special for the children. With their support, the Lawrence Arts Center can carry on this vital and special holiday tradition in Lawrence.
