Welcome to Imagination & Place, organized to consider ideas related to human imagination and concepts of place. Imagination & Place conferences, exhibitions, publications, lectures, and projects are interdisciplinary and arts-based.

10-Year Imagination & Place Reunion

Presenters, organizers, and participants of the first Imagination & Place conference gather May 9, 2009, on the University of Kansas campus, Lawrence, Kansas. Ed Casey (third from left) Distinguished Professor, Stony Brook State University of New York, had just concluded delivering a talk, "Approaching the Edges of Land in Art, Geography & Philosophy" at a conference sponsored by From the Ground Up, an on-going collaboration among artists, scientists, and teachers who collectively work in place-based studies.

In 1999, Casey and others pictured began planning the 2001 Kansas Conference on Imagination & Place: Hypnogeography, where Casey presented the paper, "Imagination & Place, Earth and World." With Casey are (left to right): Laurie Ward, Paul Hotvedt, Garth Myers, Lisa Grossman, Rick Mitchell, and Judith McCrea.
