A Christmas Story
by Jean Shepherd, Adapted by Phil Grecian

Remember the leg lamp? The pink bunny pajamas? the Holy Grail of Christmas presents: "a genuine Red Ryder 220-Shot Carbine Action Air Rifle " and the little boy with his tongue frozen to the flag pole? The whole family will enjoy this affectionate, wacky, and heart warming portrayal of the typical Christmas joys and troubles in small-town Depression-era Indiana.

The Queen of Bingo
by Jeanne Michels and Phyllis Murphy

Where can two sisters on the other side of fifty, who want to add a little zest, fun and excitement to their lives, find it? Bingo! Sis and Babe are sisters and best friends who have played Bingo together for years because they love it. This hilarious comedy even features an audience participation bingo game where the lucky winner comes away with a frozen turkey.

(Jan. 22, 23, 24, 25, 29, 30, 31 and Feb. 1)

Doubt
by John Patrick Shanley Pulitzer and Tony Award Winner

This gripping story of suspicion is less about scandal than about fascinatingly nuanced questions of moral certainty. The provocative investigation of truth and consequences is set in 1964, as Sister Aloysius, a Bronx school principal, takes matters into her own hands when she suspects young Father Flynn of improper relations with one of the male students.

(Feb. 26, 27, 28, March 1, 5, 6, 7, 8)

Moonlight and Magnolias
by Ron Hutchinson

When the screenplay for his new epic, “Gone With the Wind,” doesn't work, legendary producer David Selznick sends for famed screenwriter Ben Hecht and pulls formidable director Victor Fleming from the set of "The Wizard of Oz." Summoning both to his office, he locks the doors, closes the shades, and on a diet of bananas and peanuts, the three men labor over five days to fashion a screenplay for one of the most beloved films of all time. Frankly my dear, hilarious fun!

(April 17, 18, 19, 23, 24, 25, 26, 30, May 1, 2, 3)

Artist Lecture

: Gonkar Gyatso

Co-sponsored with The Center for East Asian Studies / Born in Lhasa in 1962 Gonkar Gyatso’s artistic career charts the course of contemporary Tibetan history, documenting a creative engagement with what it means to be Tibetan in the 21st century. Currently based in London, he was the recipient of a Leverhulme fellowship in 2003 and became ’Artist in Residence’ at the Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford. His work has been internationally exhibited in galleries and museums in Europe and North America. Through his art, Gyatso charts the subtle shifts in identity and belonging caused by constant migration, exploring the hybrid fusion of cultures and tradition in contemporary global society. http://www.sweetteahouse.co.uk/artists/gonkar_gyatso/ SMA Auditorium / 7-9 PM

Film: 49 Up

Shown in conjunction with Time/Frame / How do people change over time? Can the adult already be found in the child of seven? What account would you give that child of the life you have lived since? These are the questions that have been explored, with mounting tension and surprise over four decades, in one of cinema’s most remarkable enterprises, the Up series. In 1964, England’s Granada Television "World in Action" team interviewed a diverse group of seven-year-olds from across England, asking them to describe their lives and hopes. Over the years, Granada has tenaciously pursued the Up series, revisiting the children every seven years as they have grown up, navigating the divides between childhood dreams and adult reality. As 49 Up revisits questions of love, marriage, career, class and prejudice — deftly inter-cutting footage from earlier films with contemporary interviews — it discovers surprising ruminations about the Up film series itself as well as unexpected turns in individual lives as they enfold over time.
